Music

I enjoy listening to a wide variety of music from Folk to Classical.

I played flute through high school and for fun in a few community groups in the distant past.  In 2017, I began my Mountain Dulcimer journey by attending Dulcimer Week in the Wallowas. I’ve been hooked ever since, studying with Heidi Muller and a multitude of internationally renowned dulcimer instructors via in-person & online festivals & workshops, and participating with several jam groups and the First National Dulcimer Orchestra.

Do you want to

Learn to Play the Mountain Dulcimer?

The dulcimer is easy to learn with no music experience.
Experienced musicians can add a new instrument to their skills!

I recently taught a series of 5 Beginning Dulcimer sessions
At the Harrington Opera House.

IF there is sufficient interest, I will continue to share my
love & knowledge of this wonderful instrument as my time permits.

Plans for Dulcimer outreach at the Harrington Opera Class so far include:

  • Open Dulcimer Jam – May 7 – 3:00 – 4:30 PM
First portion of the time will be review or intro for new players.
  • Some of the students from the first Dulcimer Series will join me in playing background music during the Car Show Quilt Show in the Harrington Opera House Auditorium between 11 am & noon on May 17th.
  • Occasional “Continuing ed. group lessons for those who completed the first “Learn to Play the M. Dulcimer course.
  • A repeat of the “Learn to Play the Mountain Dulcimer” series sometime in late summer of fall.

The Spokane Dulcimer Guild is composed of amateur musicians who play and /or build the Mountain Dulcimer.  We welcome any stringed instrument to our group as the addition of hammered dulcimer, guitar, bass, fiddle, mandolin and banjo adds to the richness of all the tunes that we play.

Jams are usually held on the first and third Friday of the month at  the Spokane Friends Meeting Place.

Check out the SDG Music/Resource Page.
